Moving Guide

Here are some handy tips & tricks to make your next move smoother! Guide only.
Organise
 

  • Obtain moving boxes, packing tape & marker pens

  • Arrange for removalists 

  • Arrange transit insurance

  • Make arrangements for any pets

  • Arrange home & contents insurance on your new home

  • Organise moving times with your agent to ensure move out/move in transition is smooth

Cancel
 

  • Electricity/gas connection (not too early!)

  • Telephone (home line) account 

  • Newspaper deliveries 

  • Internet connection

  • Water

  • Any services connected directly to the home

Remember
 

  • Clean the home top to bottom as if it were still yours

  • Defrost the fridge/freezer

  • Tidy the yard

  • Ensure that the chattels that have been sold with the property aren’t accidentally packed

  • Disconnect all appliances

  • Securely pack all jewellery, money, special documents and papers (i.e. legal, tax, insurance etc)

  • Pack each room leaving the boxes stacked and labelled with the room they are to be moved to i.e. kitchen.  It is a good idea to write on each box a list of its general content

  • Boxes containing breakables label ‘FRAGILE’ and identify these items to your removal people​

Notify new address to following:

  • Bank

  • Credit card companies, i.e. visa, diners, fuel cards

  • Post office for redirection of mail

  • Registrar of electors (at Post Office)

  • Department of transport

  • Insurance companies (home/car)

  • Anyone who sends you important mail by post
